Modeling Scientist

About Anthos

Anthos is building causal decision infrastructure for capital allocators, investors, philanthropies, and policymakers. By mapping cause and effect within complex systems, it supports strategic planning and forecasting for high-stakes decisions.

The platform ingests relevant literature, reports, and data, then applies causal modeling and neuro-symbolic AI to build math-based simulation models. These models are auditable and grounded in explicit, rigorous equations rather than AI-generated text. Agentic assistants sit on top, enabling non-technical users to run simulations and assess the potential impact of planned allocations, strategies, and policy proposals.

About the role

Anthos is looking for a Software Developer to help build and advance the technical infrastructure underlying our modeling platform. In this individual contributor role, you'll work across the stack to design, implement, and maintain the systems that allow complex causal models, simulations, data, and AI agents to work together.

This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of software engineering, AI, and computational modeling. You'll have significant ownership over technical architecture and implementation, while working closely with modeling scientists, product, and engineering to turn ambitious ideas into robust production systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement technical architecture for new features, systems, and platform capabilities
  • Develop, test, and maintain production software across the Anthos platform
  • Build the infrastructure required to support causal models, simulations, data pipelines, and AI-assisted workflows
  • Translate product and modeling requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions
  • Conduct code reviews and contribute to engineering standards, architecture, and best practices
  • Contribute to security, DevOps, infrastructure, testing, observability, and overall code quality
  • Advise on technical feasibility, scoping, and implementation approaches for the product roadmap
  • Collaborate closely with modeling scientists, product, design, and other engineers to deliver new capabilities
  • Help establish technical foundations that enable the platform to scale across models, customers, and use cases
  • Support technical diligence as needed, including fundraising, enterprise security reviews, and partner evaluations

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience, or equivalent demonstrated experience building production systems
  • Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript, with experience building production applications and services
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, databases, testing, and distributed systems
  • Experience taking software from initial design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing maintenance
  • Comfortable working across the stack and moving between backend systems, infrastructure, and product-facing functionality
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, DevOps, CI/CD, and modern development tooling
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to work effectively in ambiguous and technically complex environments
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Interest in AI, causal modeling, simulation, or computational approaches to complex systems

Nice to Have

  • Experience with machine learning, AI agents, or LLM-based applications
  • Experience with scientific or mathematical computing, simulation, optimization, or modeling platforms
  • Experience building systems that work with graphs, equations, or complex interconnected data
  • Familiarity with causal inference, system dynamics, Bayesian modeling, or related quantitative methods
  • Experience working with early-stage products and rapidly evolving technical requirements
  • Experience in energy, finance, climate, or policy
